Relationship between Family Violence Trauma and Quality of Life among Alcoholics -Mediating role of Depression, Relapse Risk

Abstract
Research has consistently reported a strong association between family violence and depression, relapse risk, quality of life(QoL) among alcoholics. The primary aim of this study was to examine the role of depression and relapse risk as mediator between the family violence trauma and QoL among alcoholics. Data for this study were collected through the face to face interview by mental health professional. Total 170 alcohol dependent who admitted to K alcohol hospital were used for the analysis. Subjects were screened using the AWARE, WHOQoL-BREF, CED-S, family violence trauma and collected data were analysed by SPSS 17.0, AMOS 18.0. The findings of the study were as follows: First, family violence trauma had on significant relationship to the QoL among alcoholics. Second, there was strong association between family violence trauma and depression, relapse risk. Third, depression and relapse risk worked as full mediators between the family violence trauma and QoL among alcoholics. Based upon these findings we suggest to develop an integrated alcoholism-trauma treatment program in addiction field. The implications and limitations of these findings were discussed, and directions for future studies were also proposed.
